# Intercom: create a segment

## Steps
1. Go to Contacts.
2. Click + Add filter and choose the people or company attribute to filter by (e.g. "last seen more than 30 days ago").
3. Combine filters with And / Or rules for more specific targeting.
4. Click Save segment and give it a name.

## End state
The new segment appears under Contacts in the left-hand segment menu; users are added to or removed from it automatically as they come to match (or stop matching) its filters, and it can be used to target an ongoing message. To edit it later, select it from the Contacts menu and edit its filters, or rename it from Settings → Data → People → Segments.
