# Slack: deactivate a member's account

## Steps
1. From your desktop, click **Admin** in the sidebar.
2. Select **Workspace settings** from the menu, then click **People**.
3. Click the three-dots icon next to the member you'd like to deactivate.
4. Select **Deactivate account**.

## End state
The member is removed from all channels, signed out of the workspace on all devices, and unable to sign back in. Their messages and files are not deleted. (In an Enterprise org, workspace-level accounts can't be deactivated directly — use Manage members → three-dots icon instead to remove someone from a workspace.)

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
