# Slack: export workspace data (public channels, JSON)

## Steps
1. From your desktop, click **Admin** in the sidebar.
2. Select **Workspace settings** from the menu, then click **Security**.
3. Click **Import & export data**.
4. Click the **Export** tab.
5. Below **Export date range**, click the drop-down menu to select an option.
6. Click **Start Export**. An email is sent once the export file is ready.
7. Open the email and click **Visit your workspace's export page**.
8. Click **Ready for download** to access the ZIP file.

## End state
A ZIP file containing public-channel messages and file links in JSON format is available for download from the workspace's export page.
