# Intercom: install the Messenger on your website
## Steps
1. Go to Settings → Channels → Messenger Live Chat → Overview, find the Website card, and select Install on website.
2. Choose the install type: "Visitors & leads" (quickest; conversations aren't linked to user details) or "Signed-in users, visitors & leads" (requires frontend and backend changes), then click Continue.
3. Optionally click Invite teammate to have an engineer complete the install with the minimum required permissions (manage general/security settings, manage Messenger settings, manage workspace data).
4. Choose an install method: custom code snippet, React, Angular, Vue, Ember, or an integration (WordPress, Google Tag Manager, Shopify, Segment).
5. Click Copy code and paste the snippet before the </body> tag on every page the Messenger should appear on; edit it to pass the current user's email/user_id and signed-up date dynamically from the server (never hardcode one user's identity).
6. Click Test your installation to confirm — a "Messenger is installed" confirmation appears once it passes.
7. If doing the Signed-in users path, generate a signed JWT per logged-in user on the server, add intercom_user_jwt to the snippet, and re-test.
8. Call Intercom('shutdown') on user logout to clear the session cookie.
## End state
The Messenger launcher appears on the installed pages and visitor/customer conversations start arriving in the Inbox; the install page shows a passing "Messenger is installed" check.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
