# AWS Console: create an AMI from a running EC2 instance (repeat task)

## Steps
1. Open the Amazon EC2 console → **Instances**.
2. Select the instance, then choose **Actions** → **Image and templates** → **Create image**.
3. On the "Create image" page, enter an **Image name** and optional **Image description**.
4. Leave **Reboot instance** checked for a consistent image (or clear it to skip the reboot).
5. Adjust instance volumes/tags as needed, then choose **Create image**.
6. To check progress, go to **AMIs** in the navigation pane, filter **Owned by me**, and watch the status move from pending to available.

## End state
A new AMI (and underlying EBS snapshot(s) of the instance's volumes) is registered and can be used to launch new instances with the same configuration.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
