# Okta Admin Console: configure a password policy (Identity Engine)

## Steps
1. Go to Security → Authenticators.
2. Click the Actions button next to the Password factor row.
3. Select Edit.
4. Click Add New Password Policy.
5. Provide a policy name and add the groups the policy applies to.
6. Select the authentication provider (Okta, AD, or LDAP) from the dropdown.
7. Set password settings: minimum length (4–30 characters, default 8), complexity requirements, and common/breached-password checks.
8. Save the policy.

## End state
The new policy is listed under the Password authenticator and applies to the scoped groups on their next password set/change.

## Moved from
On orgs still on Classic Engine, the same task is done at Security → Authentication → Password tab → Add New Password Policy; current docs describe the Identity Engine path above as current for Identity Engine orgs (the default for new orgs).

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
