# Okta Admin Console: create an API token

## Steps
1. Sign in to the Admin Console as an admin holding the permissions the token should carry (token inherits the creator's permissions).
2. Go to Security → API.
3. Click the Tokens tab.
4. Click Create Token.
5. In the "What do you want your token to be named?" field, enter a token name.
6. Optionally restrict which IPs the token's API calls may originate from, via the "API calls made with this token must originate from" dropdown.
7. Click Create Token to finish; the token value is shown once.

## End state
The new token is listed on Security → API → Tokens with its name, creator, and last-used time. The raw token value is never shown again after this screen.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
