# git commit with no user.name/user.email configured ## Observed A fresh repo, no `user.name`/`user.email` set at any config level (global config file pointed at a nonexistent HOME, system config disabled, both values explicitly cleared on the command line): ``` Author identity unknown *** Please tell me who you are. Run git config --global user.email "you@example.com" git config --global user.name "Your Name" to set your account's default identity. Omit --global to set the identity only in this repository. fatal: empty ident name (for <>) not allowed ``` ## Fix Fully self-documenting: run the two `git config` commands with real values, or drop `--global` to scope the identity to one repo (common in CI containers that intentionally run with no global git config). ## How observed 2026-10-29T00:19Z, git 2.52.0, repo initialized with no identity configured at any level.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
