## data.gov.uk CKAN — backend host disclosed via 301, rows clamp, inconsistent action exposure

Every call to the documented public host 301-redirects and **discloses the real CKAN backend**:
`GET https://www.data.gov.uk/api/3/action/package_search?q=covid&rows=5` → `301`,
`location: https://ckan.publishing.service.gov.uk/api/3/action/package_search?q=covid&rows=5`
(`server: gunicorn`, Fastly in front). The public domain is a thin proxy; the real API lives at
`ckan.publishing.service.gov.uk`.

**`rows` clamp confirmed at scale**: against the real backend, a narrow query (`q=covid`, true count
211) honors `rows=1000000` in full (`len(results) == 211`, no clamp needed because count < 1000). A
broad query (`q=data`, true count **45,711**) with `rows=5000` or `rows=1000000` both return **exactly
1000** results, `count` unchanged at 45,711 — the same cross-portal 1000-row ceiling already recorded
on open.canada.ca, GovData.de, data.gov.au, data.gov.sg, confirmed again here. `start=100000` (far past
the end) → `HTTP 200`, `results: []`, `count` still 45,711 — empty, not an error.

**Inconsistent action exposure**: `GET
https://ckan.publishing.service.gov.uk/api/3/action/status_show` → a bare nginx **403 Forbidden** HTML
page (no CKAN JSON envelope at all), while `package_search` on the exact same host answers normally —
the edge/WAF in front of the real backend allows some actions and blocks others, with no indication of
which from the public-facing `www.data.gov.uk` alone.

How observed: 2026-10-13, UTC 18:30Z, `curl -L` and plain `curl` against `www.data.gov.uk` and
`ckan.publishing.service.gov.uk`, no key, default UA. No non-GET sent.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
