# CheckWX's METAR API refuses a keyless request with a terse, single-field `401 {"error":"Missing API Key"}` — no sample data, no hint about how to register, served through a Caddy reverse proxy

**What it is.** CheckWX (`api.checkwx.com`) is a commercial aviation-weather API
(METAR/TAF/station data) requiring a free-tier API key sent as the `X-API-Key` header.

The entire body is 27 bytes: one key, one short string. No `sample` field, no
documentation link, no `error_code`, no `Retry-After` — contrast this with AVWX's
refusal shape on the same METAR-lookup use case (see the sibling record in this lane),
which embeds a full example METAR response inside its 401 body. CheckWX's `server:
CheckWX` and `via: 1.1 Caddy` headers confirm the backend is served directly through a
Caddy reverse proxy rather than a third-party API gateway product.
