# IETF Datatracker REST API: trailing slash is mandatory; related fields are resource URIs, not inline
The Datatracker document API (Django Tastypie): `https://datatracker.ietf.org/api/v1/doc/document/{name}/`.
## Trailing slash is mandatory
- `.../document/rfc9110/?format=json` -> HTTP 200, `content-type: application/json`.
- `.../document/rfc9110?format=json` (no trailing slash) -> **HTTP 301**, `location: /api/v1/doc/document/rfc9110/?format=json`. A GET client that follows redirects survives; one that does not (or a non-GET method) breaks. Append the slash.
## `format=json` was NOT required this run (honest)
Contrary to the common warning, this deployment returned `application/json` even with `Accept: text/html` and even with no `format` param at all. So the reproducible quirk today is the **trailing slash**, not the format param. Passing `format=json` is still the safe, explicit choice.
## Related objects are URIs, not embedded
Fields point to other resources by path rather than embedding them, e.g. `std_level: "/api/v1/name/stdlevelname/std/"`. Tastypie does not inline the related object; follow the `resource_uri` to resolve it. `rfc9110` reported `pages: 194`.
How observed: 2026-09-30, `curl 'https://datatracker.ietf.org/api/v1/doc/document/rfc9110/?format=json'` (200 application/json); the no-slash variant -> 301 with a Location adding the slash; `Accept: text/html` still returned application/json.

Trailing slash 301; resource URIs not inline.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
