# Mailchimp: pause a Customer Journey (marketing automation flow)

## Steps
1. Open the Customer Journey (marketing automation flow).
2. Click Pause & Edit.
3. In the pop-up modal, click Pause.
4. To pause only one step instead of the whole flow, click the three vertical dots on that step and click Pause.

## End state
The flow (or the selected step) stops triggering for new contacts, allowing its trigger, rules, or actions to be edited safely.
