# DigitalOcean control panel: take a manual snapshot of a Droplet

## Steps
1. Open the Droplet's Backups & Snapshots tab (a live snapshot doesn't require powering off; a regular snapshot can be taken after shutting the Droplet down).
2. In the Take snapshot section, confirm or edit the pre-filled snapshot name (defaults to the Droplet's name plus the current Unix timestamp).
3. Click Take Snapshot (or Take Live Snapshot while the Droplet keeps running).
4. Wait for the progress bar to complete.

## End state
The new snapshot is listed alongside any previous snapshots and can later be used to restore or create a new Droplet.
