# MongoDB Atlas: edit a database user's password

## Steps
1. In Atlas, click Database & Network Access under the Security heading.
2. Click the Database Users tab.
3. Click Edit for the user to modify.
4. For a SCRAM-authenticated user, edit the password field (X.509 users instead download a new certificate; AWS IAM users instead modify access privileges).

## End state
The database user's password is updated; the authentication method itself cannot be changed from this dialog.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
