# MongoDB Atlas: restore a cluster from a backup snapshot

## Steps
1. In Atlas, go to Backup under the Database heading in the sidebar, then click the cluster link.
2. In the Actions column, expand the Actions menu and click Restore for the snapshot to restore.
3. In the Source Details pane, select Restore entire snapshot (cluster-level restore), then click Continue.
4. In the Destination pane, select the Destination Project and Destination Cluster, then click Continue.
5. Review the restore job details, type the destination cluster name to confirm, then click Start Restore.
6. Once complete, restart the application and ensure it uses the target cluster.

## End state
The target cluster's existing data is replaced with the snapshot's data (and its indexes); the target cluster is unavailable for the duration of the restore.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
