# Firebase console: rotate a web API key

## Steps
1. Firebase console: Project Settings → General → Your apps card → select the web app → Config, to find the current apiKey value (Firebase has no separate 'rotate' control; API keys are managed in Google Cloud).
2. In the Google Cloud console for the same project, go to APIs & Services → Credentials.
3. Click the name of the API key to rotate.
4. Click Rotate key. A new key value becomes active immediately alongside the old one (shown as Previous key).
5. Update the app's config with the new key value.
6. Once migrated, return to the key's page and under Previous key click Delete the previous key.

## End state
The project has a new active API key value; the old value is deleted and stops authenticating requests.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
