# Vercel: delete an environment variable

## Steps
1. From the dashboard, select your project.
2. Select **Environment Variables** in the sidebar (Project Settings).
3. Find the variable in the list below the Add New form (search by name and/or filter by Environment if needed).
4. Click the three dots to the right of the Environment Variable name.
5. Choose the delete option from the menu.

## End state
The variable is removed from the project. Changes to environment variables only apply to new deployments, so existing deployments keep using the old value until redeployed.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
