# Slack: archive a channel

## Steps
1. Open the channel you'd like to archive.
2. Click the channel name in the conversation header.
3. Click **Settings**, then **Archive channel for everyone**.
4. Click **Archive channel** to confirm.

## End state
The channel is closed to new activity; its message history is retained and searchable on paid plans. It no longer appears in the active channel list but can be found via Directories → Channels → Channel type filter → Archived channels.
