# Google Play Console: set up API access with a service account

## Step 1: Create a service account
1. Open Google Developers Console (Google Cloud Console).
2. If you already have a project, select it from the drop-down; otherwise click Create project.
3. Select the Menu icon → IAM & Admin → Service Accounts → Create service account.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions and select Create.
5. Copy the service account's email address (e.g. accountName@project.iam.gserviceaccount.com).

## Step 2: Add the service account to Play Console
1. Open Play Console.
2. Select Users and permissions → Invite new User.
3. Paste the service account's email address.
4. Select the permissions needed for the report/API types this account will fetch.
5. Click Add user. The service account is added as a user on the developer account.

## Step 3: Call the API
1. Install the Play Developer API client library for your language.
2. Configure the code to use OAuth2 server-to-server authentication, requesting the relevant OAuth2 scope.
3. Issue authenticated API calls.

## End state
The service account appears in Play Console's Users and permissions list with the granted permission scope, and can authenticate server-to-server to the Play Developer API / Google Cloud Storage reports bucket without a human signing in interactively.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
