# Intercom: create an assignment Workflow (inbox rule)

## Steps
1. First confirm teams exist: Settings → General → Teammates & Teams → create any needed teams and assign members; grant teammates access to the relevant team inboxes under Settings → Workspace → Teammates.
2. Go to AI & Automation → Workflows.
3. Click + New workflow.
4. Select a trigger, e.g. "Customer sends their first message."
5. Define conditions on attributes or keywords to filter which messages this workflow should handle.
6. In the builder, add an explicit Assign to team or Assign to teammate action (a workflow that ends without one falls back to the workspace's default assignee, often "Unassigned").
7. Save and turn the workflow on; check its priority order against other workflows under AI & Automation → Workflows, since only one customer-facing workflow runs per conversation.

## End state
New conversations matching the trigger and conditions are automatically assigned to the chosen team or teammate instead of landing in Unassigned.
