# Google Cloud Console: change (resize) a Compute Engine VM's machine type (repeat task)

## Steps
1. Stop the VM instance first (machine type changes require the VM to be stopped).
2. Click the VM's name to open its details page.
3. Click **Edit** (or the three-dot **More actions** menu → Edit) on the machine configuration section.
4. Select the new machine type from the available compatible options.
5. Click **Save** to apply the change.
6. Start the VM instance again.

## End state
The VM runs with the new machine type; SSH keys, other VM configuration, and data on attached disks are unaffected.
