# AWS Console: rotate an IAM user's access key (repeat task)

## Steps
1. Open the IAM console → **Users**, then select the user.
2. Open the **Security credentials** tab.
3. Under "Access keys", click **Create access key** and save the new Access Key ID and Secret Access Key.
4. Update your application/tool with the new key, then confirm it works.
5. Back on the **Security credentials** tab, for the old access key click **Deactivate** (or **Delete**) and confirm.

## End state
The user has an active new access key; the old key is deactivated or deleted and can no longer authenticate requests.
