# GitHub: transfer repository ownership (repeat task)

## Steps
1. Go to the repository, click the **Settings** tab (or the **⋯** menu → Settings).
2. Scroll to the "Danger Zone" section and click **Transfer**.
3. Under "New owner", choose **Select one of my organizations** or **Specify an organization or username**.
4. Optionally enter a new name in the "Repository name" field.
5. Type the repository name into the confirmation field.
6. Click **I understand, transfer this repository**.

## End state
Ownership moves to the specified account/organization; the original owner becomes a collaborator on the transferred repository.
