# SendGrid: create a Dynamic Template

## Steps
1. Go to Email API → Dynamic Templates.
2. Click Create a Dynamic Template, name it, and click Create.
3. On the template, click Add Version.
4. Select a starting design, then choose Design Editor or Code Editor.
5. Set the version's name, subject, and preheader.
6. Click Build to add modules and styling (Design Editor) or edit HTML/handlebars directly (Code Editor).
7. Click Save; click Make Active to designate this version as the one sent by default.

## End state
The active version's template ID can be referenced from the Mail Send API to send personalized email with handlebars-style substitutions.
