# Fly.io: add a custom domain/certificate

## Steps
1. Open the app in the Fly.io Dashboard and navigate to its Certificates section.
2. Add the domain there (the equivalent CLI command is `fly certs add example.com`; wildcard domains need quotes, e.g. `fly certs add "*.example.com"`).
3. Follow the DNS configuration instructions shown — the dashboard's setup instructions (or `fly certs add`'s CLI output) show the recommended A, AAAA, CNAME, or DNS-challenge records for the situation.
4. Add those records at the domain's DNS provider.
5. Check status with `fly certs check <hostname>` or by revisiting the Certificates section.

## End state
Once DNS validates, the certificate issues and the domain serves the app over HTTPS.

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
