# Render Dashboard: add an environment variable

## Steps
1. Select the service in the Render Dashboard.
2. Click Environment in the left pane.
3. Under Environment Variables, click + Add Environment Variable.
4. Enter a Key and Value.
5. Choose a save option: Save, rebuild, and deploy; Save and deploy; or Save only.

## End state
The variable is injected into the service's runtime per the chosen save behavior; "Add from .env" below the list allows bulk-adding variables from a local `.env` file instead. Shared variables can also live in an Environment Group attached to multiple services.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
