# Heroku Dashboard: add a custom domain

## Steps
1. Select the app and go to the Settings tab.
2. Scroll to the Domains section.
3. Click Add domain.
4. Enter the domain name (apex or subdomain) and save.
5. Copy the DNS Target Heroku generates for that domain.
6. At the domain's DNS provider, add a CNAME (subdomain) or ALIAS/ANAME (apex, if supported) record pointing to the DNS Target.

## End state
Once DNS propagates, the domain routes traffic to the app; Heroku's Automated Certificate Management then provisions and renews an SSL certificate for the domain automatically on eligible plans.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
