# Netlify: add a custom domain

## Steps
1. From the Site Overview dashboard, select Domain management in the left sidebar.
2. Select Add domain.
3. Choose "Add a domain you already own".
4. Enter the domain and select Verify.
5. Confirm with Add domain.
6. Choose whether to manage DNS with Netlify DNS (Netlify becomes the authoritative DNS provider, auto-creates A/CNAME records and HTTPS certs) or an external DNS provider (add the required record at that provider).

## End state
The domain is listed under Domain management; once DNS propagates and, for Netlify-managed certs, validation completes, the site serves HTTPS on the custom domain automatically.
