# Netlify: add an environment variable

## Steps
1. Open the project in the Netlify dashboard.
2. Go to Project configuration → Environment variables.
3. Click Add a variable.
4. Enter a Key and a Value (or import an entire `.env` file instead of entering one at a time).
5. Save.

## End state
The variable is listed under Environment variables and becomes available starting with the next deploy; it can also be declared per-context in a `netlify.toml` file instead of through the UI.

Source: vendor documentation as of 2026-10-29 (doc date not shown); not observed in a live UI.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
