# Neon console: create a personal API key

## Steps
1. Go to Account settings → API keys.
2. Click Create new API key.
3. Give the key a descriptive name.
4. Click Create.

## End state
The key's secret value is shown once; it must be copied immediately, since losing it means revoking and generating a new key rather than viewing the old value again. Revocation on this page is immediate and permanent.

## Note
Organization- and project-scoped keys are a separate kind, created instead under the organization's Settings → API keys.
