# Neon console: create a branch

## Steps
1. Select a project, then select Branches in the sidebar.
2. Click New branch to open the branch creation dialog.
3. Select a Parent branch (defaults to the project's default branch).
4. Specify a branch name, or leave blank for a generated name.
5. Choose what the branch includes: Current data (copy of the parent's latest data/schema) or Past data (copy as of a specific past date/time).
6. Confirm to create.

## End state
The new branch appears on the Branches page with its own compute endpoint and connection URI, isolated from the parent until explicitly merged/reset.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
