Open the cluster, then go to its Search & Vector Search page.\n2. Click the Search tab.\n3. Click Create Search Index.\n4. Choose Visual Editor (point-and-click field mapping) or JSON Editor (write the index definition directly, e.g. `{ mappings: { dynamic: true } }` for the default dynamic-mapping index).\n5. Select the target database and collection.\n6. Click Create.\n\n## End state\nAtlas builds the index asynchronously; a green status indicator on the Search tab signals it is ready to query.
