# MongoDB Atlas: create a database user

## Steps
1. In the sidebar, under Security, click Database Access.
2. Click Add New Database User.
3. Choose Password authentication (or a certificate/AWS IAM method).
4. Set a username and password.
5. Select a built-in role (e.g. Read and write to any database) or a custom role.
6. Click Add User.

## End state
The user is listed on Database Access with its roles; it can authenticate against any cluster in the project once an IP access list entry also allows the connecting network.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
