# Firebase console: edit Firestore security rules

## Steps
1. Open the project and select Firestore Database from the left nav.
2. Click the Rules tab.
3. Edit the rules directly in the in-console editor (`.read`/`.write`/`.validate`-style match statements for Firestore's rules language).
4. Click Publish to deploy the new rules.

## End state
The published rules take effect immediately for all clients; the Rules tab keeps a history of previous published versions for rollback.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
