## Build/pipeline listing APIs: anonymous access varies wildly by product
- CircleCI API v2 `project/{slug}/pipeline` needs no token for a real public project, paginates via an opaque `next_page_token`, and answers `200` empty for a real-but-unconfigured GitHub repo vs `404` for a nonexistent one. [obj_01M45Y5VR1718174QK3FCMP3HQ]
- Azure DevOps: a known public project's `_apis/build/builds` answers anonymously with `200`, but the org-level `_apis/projects` listing (and any unknown/private project) redirects to a Microsoft Entra sign-in page that names the tenant id regardless of org. [obj_01M45Y63F1EG3P2SD107MHEJ2M]
- api.travis-ci.com v3 requires the `Travis-API-Version: 3` header or every endpoint 404s with a misleading static-file-router body (`{"file":"not found"}`); the legacy OSS host api.travis-ci.org now 404s on everything. [obj_01M45Y5XAGWF5SCN2BCGRSZ35G]
- Buildkite's documented `/{org}/{pipeline}/builds.json` needed a logged-in session for every one of 9 real pipeline slugs tried; one slug got a distinct `406` instead of the usual `403` login wall. [obj_01M45Y5T5KZX9BNFKRB4Q05WHK]
- Woodpecker CI's own dogfood instance: `/api/repos` (list) is `401` plain-text, but `/api/repos/lookup/{owner}/{name}` and the per-repo pipelines endpoint are fully keyless once you know (or guess) the name. [obj_01M45Y5PZ3KEKYTXBGB7Y366WP]
- cloud.drone.io exposes nothing anonymously beyond a 2-byte `/healthz`; every `/api/*` path is `401`, with no "not found" vs "not authorized" distinction at all. [obj_01M45Y5RP9ZA854FMG9Y13HSXM]
## Pagination clamps are universal; honesty about them is not
- GitHub Actions `/actions/runs?per_page=500` silently clamps to 100, and the response's own `Link: rel="last"` href still advertises `per_page=500` even though the page math used 100. [obj_01M45Y60C5TGFWJJQR38M9ZE6R]
- GitLab's `/projects/{id}/pipelines?per_page=200` clamps to the same 100, but its `Link`/`X-Per-Page`/`X-Next-Page` headers self-correct to the real value used. [obj_01M45Y61V6DC6QMPSEEW0N33Y8]
- Cross-service: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and Gitea.com all silently clamp an over-large page-size to a server max with no `400` and no in-body warning, but only GitLab's navigation headers match what it actually did. [obj_01M45Y7GE2190XFZHG077XH129]
## HTTP 200 hides failure or emptiness; the body field is the only tell
- Across CircleCI, shields.io, AppVeyor, and Codecov, "not configured," "not found," and "here is your real data" all answer `200` — only a specific body field (never the status code) distinguishes them. [obj_01M45Y7J16MZ2S2MZ4SR00T12J]
- AppVeyor's `/api/projects/{account}/{slug}` always reports `project.builds: []`; the real latest build lives in a separate top-level `build` key, and the natural-looking `/badge/icon` path silently serves the Angular app shell instead of an image. [obj_01M45Y5YW1FTRZQKQE4Y61GYZA]
- img.shields.io always answers `200`: a missing GitHub Actions workflow and a malformed `/endpoint` payload both render their error as text inside the badge SVG/JSON rather than as a non-200 status. [obj_01M45Y650CJX758M7157EYWT4E]
- Codecov v2's `/api/v2/github/{owner}/repos/{repo}` needs no token for public coverage data; an inactive repo gets the identical `200` envelope with `totals: null` instead of an object, and nothing distinguishes "never used Codecov" from "used it, then stopped." [obj_01M45Y66JFD60322V7BGB31QQP]
## Version/deprecation traps
- GitHub Actions: `actions/upload-artifact`/`download-artifact` v3 have been auto-failed by the runner since 2025-01-30 per GitHub's own deprecation notice; v4 also changed semantics (artifacts are immutable per job, no longer mergeable across jobs the old way). [obj_01M62GQRZVXDA86JHEHSMHCSTJ]
## Disagreements and open questions
- Woodpecker CI and Drone Cloud are the same category of product (hosted, GitHub-backed CI SaaS) with opposite default anonymous-read postures — Woodpecker's dogfood instance answers repo-lookup and pipeline history with no key, Drone Cloud answers nothing beyond a liveness check. There is no general rule like "hosted CI dashboards are public read-only"; each product, and in Woodpecker's case each endpoint, has to be checked individually. [obj_01M45Y5PZ3KEKYTXBGB7Y366WP] vs [obj_01M45Y5RP9ZA854FMG9Y13HSXM]
- GitHub Actions and GitLab CI apply the identical silent pagination clamp but disagree on whether their own navigation headers tell the truth about it — GitHub's lies, GitLab's doesn't. [obj_01M45Y60C5TGFWJJQR38M9ZE6R] vs [obj_01M45Y61V6DC6QMPSEEW0N33Y8]
## Possibly stale
- The GitHub Actions v3 artifact-action auto-fail is drawn from a 2024-04-16 GitHub blog post describing policy, not a live-reproduced workflow failure in this corpus; the exact failure message or enforcement date could move if GitHub revises it. [obj_01M62GQRZVXDA86JHEHSMHCSTJ]
- The AppVeyor finding depended on finding a working example slug (`StackExchange/Dapper`) by trial, since AppVeyor's own documented example slug no longer resolves; the specific slug used here could stop working if that project is renamed or removed. [obj_01M45Y5YW1FTRZQKQE4Y61GYZA]
