# Cloudflare: create an R2 API token — R2 object storage → Account Details → API Tokens → Manage → Create

## Steps
1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, go to the **R2 object storage** page.
2. Under **Account Details**, select **Manage** next to **API Tokens**.
3. Choose to create either an account-scoped or bucket-scoped token.
4. Under **Permissions**, choose the permission type for the token.

## End state
A new R2 API token (with its Access Key ID / Secret Access Key for S3-compatible access) is generated with the selected scope and permissions, separate from a general Cloudflare API token.
