Open the **Invoices** page in the Dashboard.\n2. Select the open or paid invoice to credit.\n3. Click **More actions** and select **Issue a credit note**.\n4. Select a reason for the credit note, then edit line-item credit quantities/amounts or click **Add item** for a custom line item.\n\n## End state\nFor an `open` invoice, the credit note reduces the amount due (and can bring it to `paid` if it zeroes the balance).
