# Jira Cloud: create a workflow — Settings → Work items → Workflows → Add workflow → Create new

## Steps
1. Select the gear "Settings" icon, then "Work items".
2. Select "Workflows".
3. Select "Add workflow", then "Create new".
4. Enter a name and description for the workflow.
5. Select "Add".
6. In the opened workflow editor, add and edit statuses and transitions as needed (the new workflow starts with a status called "Open" and an incoming transition called "Create").

The workflow appears in the Workflows list and can be published and associated with a workflow scheme to control issue status transitions for one or more projects.
