# Twilio Console: buy a phone number — Communications → Numbers & senders → Set up a new phone number

## Steps
1. In the Twilio Console, go to "Communications" → "Numbers & senders".
2. On the Phone Numbers tab, click "Set up a new phone number".
3. Fill in the "Basic information" page fields and click "Next".
4. On the "Select Number" page, optionally apply filters (country, area code, capabilities) and click "Search"; click "Select" next to a listed number.
5. Click "Next".
6. On the "Review and buy number" page, review the selection and click "Purchase".

## End state
The number appears under Numbers & senders → Active numbers with its capabilities (Voice/SMS/MMS) and monthly cost; it is immediately configurable with webhooks.

## Moved from
The Legacy Console filed this task under "Develop" → "Phone Numbers" → "Manage" → "Buy a number"; the current (2026) Console files it under "Communications" → "Numbers & senders".
