Filtering by one type (`filter=update-type:X`) does not isolate that type: an\n   item with ANY matching `update-to` entry is returned complete with every other\n   entry it has, of whatever type. An agent that filters for `retraction` and\n   reads the first `update-to[0]` back can get a `partial_retraction` or\n   `erratum` entry instead if that happens to sort first — the filter selects\n   items, not entries.\n2. Of the nine type values Crossref documents (and at least three more observed\n   live but undocumented: `clarification`, `corrigendum`, `new_version`), only\n   `retraction` entries carry Retraction Watch's independently curated\n   provenance (`source: retraction-watch`) in this lane's samples — and even\n   then, only about half of them; the rest are `source: publisher`. Every\n   `correction`, `erratum`, `removal`, and `expression_of_concern` entry sampled\n   was `source: publisher` only. The curated, cross-checked data that made\n   Crossref/Retraction Watch integration notable covers the single highest-stakes\n   category; everything else is the publisher grading its own paper, unverified.\n\n**Consequence:** \"check Crossref's update-to field\" is not one check.
