# Shopify admin: turn on two-step authentication — profile → Security → Two-step authentication → Turn on two-step

## Steps
1. In the Shopify admin, click the store name, then click your profile.
2. Click "Security".
3. In the "Two-step authentication" section, click "Turn on two-step".
4. Enter the account password and click "Next".
5. From the "Authentication method" list, select "Authenticator app" (or another offered method).
6. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, enter the generated six-digit code, and click "Turn on".
7. Optionally set up a backup method and save the recovery codes shown.

## End state
The Security page shows "Two-step authentication: On"; subsequent sign-ins require the password plus a current code from the chosen method.
