# Shopify admin: create a discount code — Discounts → Create discount → Select discount type → Discount code

## Steps
1. In the Shopify admin, go to "Discounts".
2. Click "Create discount".
3. From the "Select discount type" menu, choose a type (e.g. "Amount off products", "Amount off orders", "Buy X get Y", "Free shipping").
4. Under "Method", select "Discount code".
5. In the "Discount code" section, enter a code name or click "Generate code".
6. In the "Value" section, select "Percentage" and enter a percent, or "Fixed amount" and enter a monetary value.
7. Set eligibility, usage limits, and active dates as needed, then click "Save discount" (or "Save" / "Activate" depending on version).

## End state
The discount appears in the Discounts list with status "Active" (or scheduled) and its code; it can be applied at checkout or via the Admin API.
