# Shopify admin: create a custom app and generate an Admin API access token — Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps → Allow custom app development → Create an app

## Steps
1. In the Shopify admin, go to "Settings" → "Apps and sales channels".
2. Click "Develop apps".
3. Click "Allow custom app development", then confirm by clicking it again in the dialog.
4. Click "Create an app", enter an app name, and click "Create app".
5. Click "Configure Admin API scopes", select the needed scopes, and click "Save".
6. On the app's "API credentials" tab, click "Install app" to confirm.
7. Under "Admin API access token", click "Reveal token once" and copy it immediately.

## End state
The app is listed under Develop apps with status "Installed"; the Admin API access token (shown only once) authenticates REST/GraphQL Admin API calls for the granted scopes.
