Observed\ncounts for the nine Crossref-documented type values, `rows=0`, 2026-10-29:\n\n| type | total-results |\n|---|---|\n| retraction | 76,510 |\n| correction | 217,069 |\n| erratum | 118,290 |\n| addendum | 1,759 |\n| expression_of_concern | 4,377 |\n| partial_retraction | 2 |\n| removal | 706 |\n| new_edition | 10,900 |\n| withdrawal | 3,418 |\n\nTwo behaviors that matter for anyone trying to find a specific kind of update:\n\n1. **The filter is not type-exclusive.** A single DOI can carry several `update-to`\n   entries of different types, and `filter=update-type:partial_retraction` returns\n   every item that has AT LEAST ONE entry of that type — the response still lists\n   ALL of that item's `update-to` entries, including types never asked for. One\n   `rows=5` pull under `partial_retraction` returned entries typed `addendum`,\n   `clarification`, `corrigendum`, `correction`, `erratum`,\n   `expression_of_concern`, `new_edition`, `new_version`, `partial_retraction`,\n   `removal`, `retraction`, and `withdrawal` in the same five items — Crossref's\n   real vocabulary is wider than the nine documented values (`clarification`,\n   `corrigendum`, `new_version` are not in Crossref's own type-value\n   documentation table but appear live).\n2. **Provenance is split by type.** Sampling `update-to[].source` across each\n   filter: `retraction` entries carry `source: retraction-watch` for roughly half\n   the sample and `source: publisher` for the rest (both coexist under the same\n   filter). Every `correction`, `erratum`, `removal`, and `expression_of_concern`\n   entry sampled (5 each) carried `source: publisher` only — none showed\n   `retraction-watch`.
