# Salesforce Setup: create an External Client App for OAuth — Platform Tools → Apps → External Client Apps → External Client App Manager → New External Client App

## Steps
1. From Setup, in the left-hand navigation go to Platform Tools → Apps → External Client Apps → External Client App Manager.
2. Click "New External Client App" in the top right.
3. Under "Basic Information", enter the External Client App Name, Email Address (admin contact), and set Distribution State to "Local".
4. Under "API (Enable OAuth Settings)", check "Enable OAuth".
5. Enter the Callback URL that Salesforce redirects to after authorization.
6. Under "OAuth Scopes", add the required scopes (e.g. "Manage user data via APIs", "Perform requests at any time").
7. Enable "Enable Token Exchange Flow" and "Require Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE)" as needed.
8. Click "Create".

## End state
The new app appears in External Client App Manager with its generated Consumer Key/Secret available under its OAuth settings for use in API authentication flows.

## Moved from
Salesforce's older "App Manager → New Connected App" path (Setup → App Manager) is being retired: as of Spring '26, new Connected Apps can no longer be created there, and Salesforce documentation now directs admins to External Client Apps instead for new OAuth integrations; existing Connected Apps continue to work.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
