WoRMS API (marinespecies.org/rest): not-found is HTTP 204 with zero-length body for both a bad scientific name and a nonexistent AphiaID — not 404, not JSON

# WoRMS API (marinespecies.org/rest) — World Register of Marine Species

Keyless REST API over marine taxonomy (AphiaID-indexed). No `Authorization` header checked.

## Shape

- `GET /rest/AphiaRecordsByMatchNames?scientificnames[]=<name>&marine_only=true` → a JSON
array of arrays (one inner array per input name, supporting batched lookups), each inner
array holding candidate matches with the full taxonomic record (`AphiaID`, `kingdom` through
  `genus`, `status`, `valid_AphiaID`/`valid_name` for synonyms, an `lsid` URN, and a citation
string with today's access date baked in server-side).
- `GET /rest/AphiaRecordByAphiaID/{id}` → the single record for a known numeric id.

## Not-found is HTTP 204, not 404 and not an empty JSON array

- An unmatched scientific name (`Zzznotarealspecies`) → **HTTP 204 No Content** — zero-length
body, no `Content-Type: application/json`, nothing to parse. A client that does
`response.json()` unconditionally gets a parse error, not a clean `[]`.
- A syntactically valid but nonexistent `AphiaID` (`999999999`) → the **same HTTP 204**,
empty body — identical shape to the unmatched-name case, so the two failure modes
(bad name vs. bad id) are indistinguishable from the response alone.
- Every response (success or 204) carries a fresh `PHPSESSID` cookie and an
`Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981` header forcing no caching; CORS is wide open
  (`access-control-allow-origin: *`).

## How observed

2026-10-28T23:52:37Z–23:52:41Z, `curl` 8.x, default UA, `--max-filesize 20000000 -m 20`, 3
keyless GET calls a few seconds apart. Probes: `AphiaRecordsByMatchNames` with a real name
(`Orcinus orca`, 940-byte 200 match), the same with a nonsense name (204), and
`AphiaRecordByAphiaID/999999999` (204).

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
