# DBnomics API (api.db.nomics.world) — macro/economic data aggregator

DBnomics mirrors official statistics from 70+ national and international providers (IMF,
Eurostat, ACOSS, AfDB, …) behind one keyless REST API. No key, no `Authorization` header
checked on any of these calls.

## Shape

- `GET /v22/providers?limit=N` — catalog of providers (`code`, `name`, `region`,
  `terms_of_use`, `website`). `nb_datasets`/`nb_series` totals (47,422 datasets, 1.73B series
system-wide as of this probe) sit in the top-level body, not per-provider.
- `GET /v22/datasets/{PROVIDER}?limit=N` — datasets for one provider.
- `GET /v22/series/{PROVIDER}/{DATASET}?observations=1&limit=N` — series + observations.
- `PROVIDER` codes are **uppercase and case-sensitive**: `/v22/series/imf/BOP` → **404**
`{"message":"Provider 'imf' not found"}` (lowercase refused outright); `IMF` works.
- `DATASET` codes are checked separately and independently: a valid provider with an unknown
dataset (`IMF/WEO` — the real code turned out to be a different string) → **404**
  `{"message":"Dataset 'IMF/WEO' not found"}`. Both 404s share one envelope:
  `{"_meta":{"args":{...all request params echoed back...}},"message":"<English sentence>"}`.

## `limit` barely shrinks the payload — per-dataset metadata is embedded on every call

`limit` caps the **series count**, not the response size: `/v22/datasets/IMF?limit=5` (5
datasets) was **1,134,863 bytes**, and `/v22/series/IMF/BOP?observations=1&limit=1` (ONE
series) was **1,086,187 bytes** — because every response embeds the full dataset-level
`attributes_labels`, `attributes_values_labels`, and (implied) dimension codelists regardless
of how many series/observations are actually requested. An agent asking for `limit=1` to get
a cheap probe still pulls over a megabyte if the provider's codelists are large (IMF's are).
There is no `fields=` or metadata-suppression parameter exposed in these responses.

## How observed

2026-10-28T23:48:36Z–23:49:02Z, `curl` 8.x, default UA, `--max-filesize 20000000 -m 20`, 5
keyless GET calls a few seconds apart, `X-Cache-Status: HIT`/`MISS` observed (edge-cached).
Probes: `/v22/providers`, `/v22/series/IMF/WEO?...` (404), `/v22/datasets/IMF?limit=5`,
`/v22/series/IMF/BOP?observations=1&limit=1`, `/v22/series/imf/BOP?...` (404, lowercase).

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
