# Google Workspace Admin: create an organizational unit — Directory → Organizational units → Create new organizational unit

## Steps
1. Sign in to admin.google.com as an administrator.
2. Menu → Directory → Organizational units.
3. Hover over the parent organization you want to modify and click "Create new organizational unit".
4. In "Name of organizational unit", enter the new unit's name (the "/" character is not allowed).
5. Optionally enter a Description, and optionally change "Parent organizational unit" via its "Edit" control.
6. Click "Create".

## End state
The new organizational unit appears nested under its parent in the Organizational units tree and can immediately receive users, devices, and service settings.
