# Notion: add a property to a database — database settings → Edit properties → New property (or the + next to the rightmost column)

## Steps
1. Open the database.
2. Either: select the "+" next to the rightmost existing property, or open the database's settings menu and select "Edit properties" then "New property" (or, in Table view, click an existing property header and choose "Insert left"/"Insert right").
3. Name the property and choose its type (24+ types available, e.g. Text, Number, Select, Date, Formula, Person, File).

## End state
The new property/column appears on every view of the database; a database can hold up to 500 properties total.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
