# Cloudflare: create an R2 bucket — Storage & databases → R2 → Overview

## Steps
1. Dashboard → "Storage & databases" → "R2" → "Overview".
2. If no R2 subscription exists yet on the account, complete the (free-tier) checkout flow to add one.
3. From the R2 Overview, create a bucket with a name using lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens (not starting/ending with a hyphen, 3–63 characters).

## End state
The bucket is listed under R2 and is addressable for object storage; R2 is free to start, with included free monthly usage.
